2019 round-up

29th January 2020

2019 was a busy year for the Magic of Milly team, full of meetings, events and once again, hitting some incredible fundraising targets.

We had friends that walked miles in Milly’s name (thank you Evie Sewell), and a couple of friends who ran a marathon (great stuff John and Jeff!), and even the odd one that threw themselves out of a plane (rather you than us, Izzy Albutt).

On Mother’s Day, we spent the day providing gifts on the intensive care ward at BCH, and then a few months later helped to fund their Summer Party.

One of the key achievements for this year was the finish of the ‘quiet room’ refurbishment on the ward. This was a special one, and it was fantastic for the team to see if all finished, with soft furnishings and comfortable chairs. It seems like a small thing to do, but the impact really is great for the families that spend time in there, often receiving difficult and troubling news.

With our consistent level of fundraising available, we are also proud that we now offer each parent who loses a child on intensive care with a foot impression. This is a truly wonderful gift and keepsake, and we are pleased to announce that we are also looking to roll this out across the hospital – stay tuned for more information on this!

Then in the autumn we hosted our largest event of the year, “Oktoberfest”, and despite the torrential rain, hundreds of supporters turned out for a fantastic themed evening, hosted by Spartan’s Rugby Club (MASSIVE THANKS TO THEM!) and raised an incredible £18,210 in just one evening.

The year finished up with the team delivering hundreds of cleaning products to Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham. There was more zoflora than you could shake a stick at, and the team there were incredibly grateful. Being able to offer families the chance to make themselves comfortable, clean and safe whilst their in this temporary home-from-home in order to be close to their children at the hospital is invaluable, and we’re so pleased and proud at the generosity of everyone who donated.

Phew – what a year!
